Plus, it seems like the demand for cars falls pretty quickly when there's a recession. Building a steam mill, auto plant, tire factory and then shipping in all that stuff from far corners of the map is time consuming. Cars are profitable, but they are such a pain to get an industry set up. Paragraph 4: If you made a ton of money selling cars, just be grateful for that.

It was maybe half a million a year, not much compared to rail traffic and industry revenue. After I covered an entire map with stations, I started a new company to build hotels, etc at every stations just so I could see how much profit it would bring in. The hotel hotel, restaurant and tavern have an added benefit that they make money off waiting passengers. The hotel and post office extend the amount of time that passengers and mail would stay at your station waiting for a train. Mail would be sent by another means if it doesn't get on a train quickly enough).

The express freight (passengers and mail) has a really short expiration time (presumably the passenger would get tired of waiting and find another means of transportation. Paragraph 3: Hotels don't produce any passengers. I only use that button when I'm adding a station on the very edge of the map and I don't feel like zooming and panning the map to reach it. You know you can just click on the station (on the small map) that you want to add, right? You don't have to use the "Add Station" button. Paragraph 2: Yes, the routing map is a pain, especially when you have a huge map.

Passengers are free to get on my trains if they want, but they ride second class to the freight in my company. I always concentrate on freight when I play. I don't know if passengers will get on the train if just gets them closer to where they want to go. Some people have had luck with setting up specific cargoes for every route, but that's too much work for me. That way the train picks up whatever it can haul to its next station at a profit. Once I select my cities for the route, I go to the cargo selection screen and chose the maximum number of cars available and click "Apply this consist to all stations in this route". Paragraph 1: I don't usually set up trains to go to more than 2 (sometimes 3) cities. Let me know if I'm way off on any of this, experienced dudes. I think you might be better off buying business that create stuff out of nothing as they don't require any effort and they're so consistent over a hundred years. My car building factories made a ton of money for awhile but for the last twenty years or so their performance has been weak and that seems to be the case for any business that needs stuff to make stuff. I'm at about 2040.īuilding cars can be profitable for awhile but rubber and tires are very scarce on my map. I'm also not seeing a lot of money being made at the taverns and restaurants for all these hotel guests that hotels presumably create so I'm not at all sure there's any payoff but maybe at a different stage of this game it would have been true. Good luck remembering all that for even one stop nevermind five or six.ĭo hotels actually produce passengers? That's what I read on another forum but I tried building six hotels in all my 5 star towns and I'm not sure I see that many new passengers. Often I want to see what the station has in the way of cargo and where it needs to go so I have to close the "buy a train window" and look at the big map and the station and cargoes pop ups. Using the "add a stop" button is also not ideal.

That thing should expand to full screen with different colors for other companies rail and stations and each stop should have the name of the stop. Its hard setting up stops on a big map using that tiny map they give you for routing. Will they get on board and then wait for another train to take the the rest of the way or maybe just start walking? What if I have chosen a destination that only gets them closer to where they want to be. So the way I understand it the trains will pick up passengers automatically and bring them to their destination if I've selected the proper destination. Its an impossible task to run a railroad by setting up a consist for each stop unless your entire company has one train.
